How to make your SharePoint Navigation Pop 🎉

Updated: Aug 19, 2022

SharePoint out of the box is a great application to have within your organisation. It allows you to store files, collaborate and even build a modern intranet. However, when building an intranet, you are limited in terms of customisations.

At Dapt, we're always looking for ways to innovate and make things that are mundane that little bit more exciting. Whether it’s being productive, staying in touch, or just plain having fun, Windows 11 has lots of little tricks and shortcuts that can help you achieve more. You can even use the emoji keyboard to jazz up your SharePoint navigation!

The first step is to put the navigation into edit mode. To do this click on the Edit link on the navigation. If you don't have the option to edit the menu then you will need to speak to the site owner (and maybe even send them this article).

When the sidebar shows the navigation, select the menu item you want to update and click on the three dots and then edit.

You will now be able to update your menu item.

During text entry, type Windows logo key + . (period). The emoji keyboard will appear.

Select an emoji with the mouse, or keep typing to search through the available emojis for one you like. We've popped some suggestions below as a starter for 10.

Once happy, make sure you click on the OK button and then finally on the Save button which will be at the bottom of the menu editor.

And there you have it, an eye-catching menu that will make your intranet stand out that little bit more.

Will you be adding emojis to your SharePoint Intranet?

  • Absolutely!

  • No way, plain text is fine.
